cycling.jpgThis is my eighteenth year teaching high school mathematics (I taught seventh grade for a year to remind myself how far many of you have come!). I grew up in Lincolnville and graduated from Camden-Rockport High School in 1990. When I was at Camden, I played soccer, ran cross country, skied on the Nordic team, nerded out with tski.jpghe math team and Latin Club along with other various and sundry activities. I have enjoyed working with some of my former teachers- Mr. Mckenzie, Ms. Vautour, Mr. Read, Ms. Rowe among others.

I first became interested in teaching at Williams College after tutoring fellow students in calculus and serving as a teaching assistant in several classes. I graduated from Williams in 1994 with a double major in Pure Mathematics and Political Science.

After graduation, I planned to give teaching a try in the Maine public school system, but through a chance encounter, I ended up with a position teaching mathematics at a boarding school in Switzerland (TASIS ). It was a tremendous experience, and four years later I moved on to the Taipei American School where I taught for another four years. I moved to SCECGS Redlands in Sydney, Australia in 2002. At SCECGS, I worked with the Snowsports program in addition to teaching mathematics. I moved back to teach at the Taipei American School in 2005, and I returned to Maine to teach at George Stevens Academy in Blue Hill in 2007. I also work as a Deputy Chief Examiner for the International Baccalaureate , writing and assessing IB math examinations.

blueberry.jpgMy interests are many and varied. Although I enjoy all types of winter sports (ice hockey, nordic and alpine skiing, snowboarding), I have focused most of my recent attention on cycling. Cycling clears my mind and helps me come to class healthy and refreshed. I compete in local races. I also enjoy playing around with computers.

I live in Belfast with my three gorgeous girls Rose, Zoe, and Lucy. My longest held summer job is blueberry raking. I believe I hold the world record for the most number of pounds of blueberries harvested in one day (6900 lbs.).

My favorite animal is the wombat.
